On Tuesday 30 September, we celebrated the official ribbon cutting at Leisure United Derby Racecourse Hub.
This milestone marks the completion of a truly transformational project. Thanks to a £6 million grant from the Premier League, The FA, Department for Culture, Media & Sport and Government’s Football Foundation. Alongside vital support from Derby City Council, the £11.9 million scheme has turned the historic Racecourse site into a state-of-the-art community hub for sport and activity.
The new facilities now include:
- Four 3G pitches and several grass pitches
- A modern changing Hub with café and meeting space
- An outdoor gym and 3v3 basketball court
- Walking and cycling paths to encourage active travel
These facilities will provide thousands more opportunities for people of all ages across Derby to get active and come together. Three local grassroots football clubs have already made the hub their home, with capacity to grow their teams by 50% within the next five years.
Our CEO, Mark Coulson, reflected on the achievement:
“We’re incredibly grateful to the Premier League, The FA, Department for Culture, Media & Sport and the Government’s Football Foundation, alongside Derby City Council, whose support has made this vision a reality. This hub is about more than football it’s about creating a space where the community can connect, be active and thrive.”
He also praised the collective effort behind the project:
“Local partnership sits at the heart of everything we do at Leisure United. A huge thank you to the Leisure United Racecourse team, Derby City Council, Derbyshire FA, and Derby County Community Trust. Your collaborative approach and belief in what this hub can deliver has been instrumental to its success and gives us real confidence for the future.”
The opening of Derby Racecourse Hub is a proud moment for Leisure United. It shows the power of partnership, the importance of community focus, and the impact we can make together.
