Lunch Club Re-United
At Leisure United, Sheffield Westfield we aren’t just united in leisure, but in lunching too! Our centres are where the community comes together, united in friendship, and that is typified by Westfield’s Over 65s Lunch Club.
Following lockdown, the Leisure United team can’t wait to be reunited with members of the club, and for the food, fun and banter to pick up where they left off.
For the past four years, the centre has hosted the club and welcomes about 40 people a week. Members enjoy a nutritious two-course meal and then take part in group activities. There are challenges for the mind and body – such as quizzing and bingo, with a few physical work outs thrown in for good measure.
The Over 65s Lunch Club is a fantastic format and, not only have new friendships been forged, but it has also helped introduce older participation in fitness and football.
It’s great that the hub has all the facilities for these successful social gatherings, and the lunch club format provides a connection with the wider community, helping sometimes vulnerable people to meet and socialise in a modern, friendly and welcoming environment.
