LU witnessed a great signing at the end of January 2023, as former England footballer Teddy Sheringham autographed the steel beams of a new £12m state-of-the-art sports facility at Parsloes Park in Dagenham. Project funding partners including the Premier League, the FA, the Football Foundation, and Barking and Dagenham Council were all in attendance. The development is well underway and will feature a gym, fitness studio, community café and meeting rooms alongside new shower and changing facilities to support multiple 3G pitches.
The new hub will be managed by the National Football Trust and operated by Leisure United. Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Community Leadership and Engagement at Barking and Dagenham Council, Saima Ashraf commented, “It’s fantastic to see this development starting to take shape and when finished, it will offer state-of-the-art community and sports facilities for people to take advantage of. It’s no secret that our borough has a rich, historic connection to football – we’re the birthplace of England’s only World Cup winning manager and captain – so it’s only right that we have a modern, purpose-built hub that can hopefully one day create even more success stories.”
David Gallagher, Leisure United Chairman added, “This fantastic community asset is on schedule to open later this year, and we’re looking forward to being part of life in Parsloes, and building a great foundation for both future sporting talent, and community engagement.”
